I’ve been thinking a lot about legacy lately. The word itself feels heavy, but I’ve come to realise it’s not just about what we leave behind when we’re gone. Legacy is built in the everyday — in our families, in our businesses, in the way we choose to show up.q
“Memory fades, but what we preserve becomes legacy.”
This thought came to me while I was reading about the history of my old high school, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High. Their archives are filled with photographs, records, and stories carefully preserved from the very beginning. It struck me how intentional that was — someone thought, “This matters. Let’s capture it for the generations to come.” And because of that, the story of the school is alive and remembered today.
I want that same intentionality for us.
For our families.
For our businesses.
For our stories.
That’s why this upcoming High Tea is so close to my heart. It isn’t just another event; it’s a celebration of legacy, love, and storytelling. The fascinators we’ll wear are more than fashion — they’re symbols of creativity, heritage, and elegance passed down from one generation to the next. Each one carries a story, just like we do.
For me, business has never only been about profit. It’s about what we’re building that will outlast us. It’s about creating memories, preserving history, and shaping something our children and grandchildren will be proud to carry forward.
So when we gather at the High Tea, it’s not just tea and laughter. It’s an intentional pause — a reminder that our businesses are legacies, our lives are stories, and the way we preserve them matters.
Because one day, just like those school archives, someone will look back at what we created. And my hope is they will see love, resilience, beauty, and purpose written all over it.
